Raji Ambikairajah is known amongst her peers as an ambassador for engineering and a philanthropist at heart. She is the Sydney Chapter Leader for Room to Read, a global non for profit organisation that seeks to transform the lives of millions of children in the developing world, by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education.
One of Raji's key areas of interest in Room to Read is the organisation's Girls' Education Program, and she chairs the Power of Ten campaign, which uses the collaborative power of professional networks to raise awareness and funds for the Girls' Education Program.
Raji is an electrical engineer and spent the first part of her career working in the start-up industry. She is also actively involved in the NSW Division of the Centre of Engineering Leadership and Management and in 2010 won the award for best peer-reviewed paper at the Engineering Leadership Conference for her paper entitled "Leadership Through the Eyes of a Young Engineer".
She is currently completing her PhD in the area of smart grids and represents the postgraduate student body on the Academic Board of the University of New South Wales.
Raji is a member of Women on Boards and was selected to take part in the 2011 "Next Generation of Corporate Leaders" mentoring and development program run by Women on Boards, in conjuntion with UBS. She is a well sought after speaker and is an expert on topics around women in engineering, engaging Gen Y in the workplace and educating girls in the developing world.
