Mary Delahunty has high-level experience in Government, Media, Arts and the Not-For-Profit Sector.
Currently a Non-Executive Director of the National Library of Australia, Mary is former senior state Government Minister, award winning television Journalist and Presenter, published Author, Media Consultant, Volunteer and Executive Manager in numerous Not-for-profit organisations.
Mary is an experienced and accomplished media performer with a strong record of participation in civic affairs. She is best known for leading ABC TV News and current affairs programs, the 7.30 Report and Four Corners. She also received Australia’s most prestigious award in journalism, a Gold Walkley, for her international Four Corners work. She also hosted ABC’s national arts program, Sunday Afternoon.
Mary enjoyed a high media profile as Minister for Education, Planning and Victoria’s longest serving Arts Minister 1999-2006. Mary manages her own strategy consultancy company, is Chair of Orchestra Victoria and Director of several Not-For-Profit Boards including the Centre for Advanced Journalism, Melbourne University, Melbourne Recital Centre, Harold Mitchell Foundation, and McClelland Gallery and Sculpture Park.
Mary has established a philanthropic residential Writer’s Retreat in the Macedon Ranges, Writing@Rosebank in partnership with the Victorian Writers’ Centre.
Her first book Public Life: Private Grief was published Spring 2010 and she embarked on a successful national speaking tour.
Mary was appointed CEO and National Director of the cultural start-up company Writing Australia Ltd in 2011.
