Louise Adler is the CEO & Publisher-in-Chief of Melbourne University Publishing. She has served as a member of the Monash University Council for over a decade now. She is also a member of the Board of the Melbourne International Arts Festival. Louise Adler is a Deputy Chancellor of Monash University, Deputy Chair of the Book Industry Strategy Group and a past President of the Board of the Methodist Ladies' College.

Her academic career includes teaching roles in the English and Comparative Literature department at Columbia University and the University of Melbourne. In 1988 she became the editor of Australian Book Review. From 1989 until 1994 Louise Adler was Publishing Director of Reed Books Australia. In 1994 she became the Arts & Entertainment Editor for The Age.

In 1996 she joined the ABC's Radio National as the presenter of Arts Today. In 1999 Louise Adler was appointed the inaugural Deputy Director (Academic & Research) at the Victorian College of the Arts. Her contribution to Australia's literary culture was acknowledged in the 2008 Australia Day Honours list with an AM.
