Josephine Sukkar was educated in Sydney, completing a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of New South Wales in 1985, graduating with Honours. In 1987, she completed a Graduate Diploma in Education at the University of New South Wales. Josephine taught science at Gymea High School from 1988 to 1989 inclusive.
Having had 4 years away from work to have a family, she returned to work in 1994 in a part time capacity at Buildcorp, a construction company she co-founded with her husband Tony in 1990. She remains as Principal to this day.
The Buildcorp Group is a privately owned mid-tier construction company which is comprised of a large contracting division, an interiors fitout and refurbishment division, a remedial building business and a joinery shop (Euroline). It has annual revenue in excess of $200 million, a staff in excess of 230 and operates across the eastern seaboard of Australia. Josephine is a member of the Buildcorp Advisory Board (comprised of 3 executive and 3 non- executive members), and has oversight of Human Resources, Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility. She also Chairs the Buildcorp Charitable Fund, a managed fund within the Trust Company Foundation.
Josephine also has Board positions with Growthpoint Properties Australia and Opera Australia, is Governer of The Centenary Institute and a Member of the Infrastructure Advisory Board at the University of Melbourne.
With her husband, Josephine is an active philanthropist. As well as the establishment and oversight of the Buildcorp Charitable Fund, she supports the Lifehouse at RPA, the SAN Hospital in Wahroonga and numerous other benevolent causes.
